		Algonquin College's new Internet Protocol (IP) telephony system has opened the door to a host of new applications that will enhance the college's relationship with students and faculty and those looking to the Ottawa-area college as a launch pad to the New Economy.
		The college recently went live with an IP telephony system, developed by Cisco Systems Canada and jointly integrated by Bell Canada, at the new Police and Public Safety Institute (which teaches policing and justice courses) and at the college's new student residence.
		Algonquin College's high-speed network was designed using Cisco's three-layer approach: an access layer, a distribution layer and a core layer for high-speed intrabuilding connection.
