		He then approched the Barelavi Masjid to hold the Funeral, the administrators at this Masjid also declined because because the Deobandis had declined, and felt their image would be tarnished for conducting the Funeral of a Shia in the eyes of the Deobandis.

		You are right about the Shia masjid issue, however, in Pakistan their places or worship are usually called Imambaragh, and again I don't know the reason behind this.
		But to state that a Muslim can only offer his/her salah in a masjid is to equate the masjid as being an institution and the Imam as a divine representative of Allah hence a proxy.
