Meshkini, 74, was reelected by 66 votes out of 85 at the council's first full session since nationwide elections last October, the official news agency IRNA reported.
Former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Ayatollah Ali Amini won election with 75 and 59 votes respectively to serve as vice chairmen of the council, which is responsible for electing and, if need be, dismissing the country's supreme leader, currently Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

That is the case with almost any famous cleric: Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was born in Rafsanjan, so he is calling himself that instead of "Hashemi Bahramani".
Same with Ali Meshkini, Ali al-Sistani, Mahmoud Taleghani, almost every Ayatollah.

On the first day, Ayatollah Ali Meshkini was reelected chairman, ayatollahs Ali-Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani and Ebrahim Amini, were elected vice chairmen, and Qorban-Ali Dori-Najafabadi and Ahmad Khatami were elected secretaries, IRNA reported.
"Convergence" is also used in a foreign-policy context, with Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani saying on 30 January: "Iran believes one of the effective ways in confronting expansionist ambitions of the world arrogance and the Zionist regime is to strengthen convergence and unity among regional countries," IRNA reported.
