Nueva Ecija, during the Spanish regime was made a military district in 1705, so-named by Spanish Governor Cruzar after his native town in Andalucia, Spain.
In 1818, Nueva Ecija annexed the towns of Palanan, (from the Province of Isabela), and Baler, Casiguran, Infanta and Polilio Island (from the Province of Tayabas, now Quezon).
Nueva Ecija was one of the first eight provinces that took up arms against the Spanish Government on August 30, 1896 and was declared by Governor General Ramon Blanco "in a state of war".

CABANATUAN CITY-The 60-day preventive suspension of Mayor Elizabeth Vargas of Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, was interrupted anew as the Court of Appeals ordered her temporary reinstatement pending the hearing of the administrative case filed against her by her vice mayor and municipal councilors.
Nueva Ecija Governor Tomas Joson III suspended Vargas for 60 days starting April on recommendation of the provincial board, which is looking into the administrative case filed against her for dishonesty, misconduct in office, and abuse of authority.
Vargas said the vice mayor and councilors had claimed that the documents on the appropriations ordinance she submitted to the provincial budget office were falsified, but that the documents were approved by these officials.
