Alice was an American television sitcom series which ran from 1976 to 1985 on CBS.
Alice is a 1974 film which tells the story of a widow who moves with her young son to Tucson, Arizona to start her life over again, and finds a job working at a diner.
By the 1984-1985 season, many of the situations had been exhausted and Lavin seemed disinterested in continuing the character of Alice (Alice was absent several times in the last year due to Lavin directing a number of episodes or playing another role as Alice's wizened landlady).

Alice was pretty much standard sitcom fare for the late 1970's and early 1980's with fill-in-the-blank situations and at least one "Kiss my grits!" exclamation by Flo in every episode.
Alice was one of the biggest sitcom hits of the late 1970's for a good reason: Underneath its predictable humor was true humanity between the four people of Mel's Diner.
Alice was screened in the UK on Channel 4 from 27th August 1984 until 8th October 1986 each weekday afternoon in a continuous run until 188 episodes had been shown -14 short of every episode made.

Alice was better looking with her longer hair, when it got short and when the theme song changed to the less bluesy one, it was time for Mel's famous shark sandwich.
Alice wasn't working to support herself and Tommy anymore, just getting into quirky situations because life as a waitress wasn't just as fufilling as it was when she sang fa fa fa on the theme song.

If you want to use Alice as the example, he got paid what is called "union scale" for something like the Tonight Show as he is a member of AFTRA (TV and radio union).
Alice LOVES all the new Star Trek crap (I like the original-never watch the new crap.) He isn't in any Star Trek movie but he has let it be known that he would love to be a Klingon in one of them.
Alice is a HUGE fan of "The Prisoner." I don't think the balloon thing came from the program but it's a good question.

Alice was played by SARAH SUTTON and, along with some of the cast, is pictured right at one of the film locations, Osterly Park.
In a chapter on Christopher Tucker, there is mention of "The Private Lives of Alice" [which] was a Granada Television production...[Tucker] had about ten or twelve characters to create for this production, which was more or less a takeoff on Alice in Wonderland.
