An altar-like structure houses the alien embryo-eggs, and a hieroglyph depicts the alien's lifecycle.
The film presents a version of birth that might seem almost empathetic with that of the woman's experience: the alien bursting from Kane's chest reflects the intense pain that a woman experiences during natural child-birth (birth without anesthesia).
Also, an alien egg appears in a glass case in the 2005 Christopher Eccleston story "Dalek" in the underground museum of Henry Van Statten and remains visible as the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler leave the TARDIS and when the guards storm in past the TARDIS.

Alien (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alien is a 1979 science-fiction/horror film directed by Ridley Scott.
The title of the film refers to a xenomorph, a highly-aggressive extraterrestrial creature, but the connecting thread of the plot of the film series is the story of Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver.
Alien was the first R-rated film to have a merchandising line aimed at children.

 Filmtracks: Alien 3 (Elliot Goldenthal)
Alien 3: (Elliot Goldenthal) The Alien franchise had not been kind to the composers assigned to it by the time a relatively known Elliot Goldenthal came on board in 1992 for the third installment.
David Fincher's Alien 3 had nowhere near the quality of the first two films, and remains to this day an unsatisfying sequel (as the fourth film would be as well), not to mention its inherent tragic ending that the others had not contended with.
Overall, you're going to hear a group of devoted film score and Goldenthal collectors defend Alien 3 to the death, and to their credit, the score is, like many of the composer's efforts, an interesting listening experience no matter your inclination towards his style.

NP: The role of a production designer varies from film to film, but I am primarily responsible for designing the world that is described in the script, and to create environments and props which enable the director to tell the story he wants.
There's a number of things about the first ALIEN film that made it really interesting at the time, it was having a very real universe, it was very believable.
The film that you're designing has an overall cohesiveness to it and that means you want things like colors and you want to sort of pace it so that you have smaller sets and you have the occasional big set and to augment what the action is dictating...

 Alien (1979)
At the film's center was a resourceful, self-reliant, hard-assed, feminist action heroine (unknown stage actress Sigourney Weaver in her first major film role).
Alien, a darker and less pristine version of George Lucas' immensely popular Star Wars (1977) from only two years earlier, and similar to Spielberg's blockbuster Jaws (1975) about an unseen terror lurking underwater (although set in space), reinvented the sci-fi horror genre.
The film is the story of the crew of a claustrophobic, intergalactic space cargo/scavenger ship with twenty million tons of mineral ore. The enormous Nostromo, in close-up, moves from right to left across the screen in interstellar space, similar to the opening of Lucas' Star Wars (1977).

John Kenneth Muir's Retro TV and Movie File Page: Alien 3 (1992)
At one point, Fincher was denied permission by the film's producers to shoot a critical scene in the prison understructure that had Ripley going face-to-face with the alien and expressing her anger at the long-time nemesis.
After learning that she is infected with an alien parasite capable of generating thousands more of the monstrosities, Ripley resists the Company's offer to be saved, and dives into a furnace where she and her alien progeny are promptly incinerated.
Much of the film is shot from an extreme low angle, not to suggest the size and power of the protagonists, but to constantly make viewers aware of their vulnerability.

 AboutFilm.Com - Alien (1979)
Alien shows inklings of the dark cyberpunk vision of the future (popularized in the 1980s and 90s) that director Ridley Scott would go on to realize more fully in Blade Runner three years later.
The film feels more oppressive, and the spaceship (the Nostromo) lumbers like the huge piece of complicated machinery it's supposed to be, in stark contrast to the shiny white models found in other films.
The creature (now known in pop culture simply as "the alien") and the film's sets are the nightmarish designs of Swiss artist H.R. Giger, whose art merges the organic and the inorganic, man and machine.

A feature film is a term the film industry uses to refer to a film made for initial distribution in theaters.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the American Film Institute, and the British Film Institute all define a feature as a film with a running time of forty minutes or longer, although most features today run over ninety minutes.
These types of short films would lead up to what came to be called the "featured presentation": the film given the most prominent billing and running multiple reels.

Alien autopsy film a hoax concludes scientific organization (CSICOP news)
A controversial film that purports to depict the autopsy of a space alien and thus substantiate claims that a flying saucer crashed in 1947 at Roswell, New Mexico, has been branded a hoax by the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP), headquartered in Amherst, New York.
Various journalists, UFO researchers, special-effects experts, and scientists who have viewed the film offered additional objections: that the film bore a bogus, non-military codemark; that the photographer's alleged military status had not been verified; and that the injuries sustained by the extraterrestrials were inconsistent with an aircrash.
Although the film was supposedly authenticated by Kodak, only the leader tape and a single frame were submitted for examination, not the entire footage.

ALIEN received mixed reviews when it debuted in 1979--largely from science fiction critics, who accused it of being little more than a sort of "Friday the 13th in Outer Space," a blood-and-gore horror flick given a futuristic twist via some problematic special effects.
On the downside, the film arguably lacks a strong protagonist, as Ripley is too cold to be excessively sympathetic, but the actual horrific elements are so good that the lack of audience identification with the characters doesn't much matter.
The first time I saw this film, when it was released in theaters, a lot of the effect was the shock of the key scenes--ones we had never seen before in a horror film.

 Alien (1979)
When 'Alien' was released in 1979, it caused almost as much talk as 'Star Wars' did when released two years earlier.
The science fiction genre was being revolutionized at this time and 'Alien' had a horror characteristic to it which was psychological, visually striking and compelling with the type of strength in silence not seen since '2001: A Space Odyssey' in 1968.
Definitely a big influence in blockbuster film making, 'Alien' has spawned three sequels so far and is a great horror/science-fiction classic not to be missed.
