  PS2 Game Reviews: Alien Hominid
If Alien Hominid were an arcade game, people would call it a "quarter muncher." That's because there's hardly ever a moment when the screen isn't completely busy with bullets and laser fire, and also because our little alien buddy doesn't have a health meter.
Not-so coincidently, Alien Hominid first came to life as one of the many Shockwave Flash animated games that are available for play (free) at Newgrounds.com.
Alien Hominid is one of "those" games that looks great because of its artistic style, and not necessarily because it pushes the PS2's graphical horsepower to new extremes (which it does not).

Unable to communicate with the locals, the small alien busts out his trusty green laser pistol and grenades and begins speaking the universal language of "blowing stuff up" to the scores of FBI agents and outlandish bosses that stand between the alien and his intergalactic set of wheels.
The gameplay in Alien Hominid is old-school gold and features a run-and-gun mechanic that feels both old and new at the same time.

Besides the non-stop action, the aspect that will suck you in is Alien Hominid’s style which seems to combine elements from The Simpsons (bold, solid colors), the old Calvin and Hobbes comic strip (whacked character designs) and a third element that feels familiar but that I haven’t been able to identify.
Considering Alien Hominid’s humble beginnings as a web-based flash game, the game we get here is as good or better than most side-scrolling shoot ‘em ups in recent memory.
