Alien Nation (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alien Nation was a science fiction television series, based on the movie of the same name.
Several years later, with Fox now a going concern as a network, the story of Alien Nation was continued with several television movies reuniting the original cast.
The show built a strong fan base, and popular demand led to "Dark Horizon", the episode that would have begun the second season, being novelized and adapted as a comic book.

 Alien Nation
Also in the movie Alien Nation, the newcomers were supposedly as strong as 10 humans, but this strength would come and go on the TV series.
Very few tv shows, in my humble opinion, never jump the shark, but i would have to classify Alien nation as one of those shows.
Jumped when the alien let the human bang his wife, the male was the one who got pregnant, and the double vagina thing made no sense...but it made no sense in a way which confused the viewer so badly, the viewer thought he or she was the only one confused.

 Alien Nation DVD Review
Rockne S. O'Bannon who has gone on to produce the popular science fiction TV series "Farscape" among other projects, wrote "Alien Nation." The film was developed into a short-lived television series on the Fox Network, which also followed the series up with four made for TV movies.
The appeal of "Alien Nation" lies in the interaction between Sikes and Francesco and the richly textured culture and issues that were explored in greater detail and to a greater effect on the TV series.
However, had their not been an "Alien Nation" feature film, sci-fi fans would have never gotten to enjoy the spin-offs that resulted so while not a perfect film, "Alien Nation" was good enough to inspire a fan base that still exists today.

 Eric Pierpoint
Alien Nation has been a part of Pierpoint's life for more than ten years - since he saw Mandy Patinkin's performance in the original feature film, before anyone knew there was going to be a series.
It's pure alien biology - that part is taken for granted because it's normal for George to be able to have a baby.
Pierpoint's most recent foray into the world of aliens was for the upcoming Star Trek Voyager episode "Barge of the Dead," in which he plays Kortar - the disgraced Klingon condemned for eternity to ferry lost souls across the river of blood to Grethor.

 Alien Nation: television
The perspective was that of the embarrassed, "normal" human companion, with the alien (or witch, or genie) as comic foil.
As in the drive-in classics of the era, aliens on The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits were often invaders bent on destroying American life as we knew it.
But when it comes to TV shows that feature aliens, the most memorable ones give us creatures who are not so "out there." Although we often go to the movies to see our fantasies played out, we've learned to rely on TV as a mirror, however distorted.

When Dick Solomon, the alien high commander in 3rd Rock from the Sun, declares, "God bless television," he is merely reflecting the feeling of most earthlings: that television is the most influential medium of the 20th century.
Not only was he instrumental in creating both radio and television as we know them, he was also nearly clairvoyant in seeing how each medium would develop.
RCA's general foresaw radio as a mass medium built around a network, then did it again for television, rearranging living rooms everywhere

The alien bodies recalled by several eyewitnesses were in fact a combination of injured pilots and lifelike crash dummies, according to the recently released Air Force report on Roswell.
As the debate rages over whether or not aliens came to Earth that summer day in 1947, many Americans are likely to see a bald, bulging-eyed critter looking out at them from their television sets or living room coffeetables.
Specifically, it was the knowledge that aliens did crash at Roswell and the subsequent opportunity to utilize their advanced technology, which gave humanity the power to unite and to finally set itself free.

In spite of that Alien Nation is innovative in the science fiction genre, even if the innovation itself has been played out to nausea elsewhere.
A routine cop thriller with a comedic sci-fi twist, Alien Nation> has two things working in its favor: Caan and Patinkin form a memorable duo, and the basic premise--as conceived by Rockne S. O'Bannon (who later developed the film as a TV series)--intelligently accounts for the sociological impact of an alien population.
It's entertaining for a brisk 90 minutes, but in its attempt to be widely appealing, Alien Nation glosses over issues that might have made it more uniquely provocative.
