xaosdog - "Rationalist Party" Political Platform (Release 00.00.01)
A Proposed Platform for a (Hypothetical) "Rationalist" Political Party
There is a natural alignment between the interests and political wish-lists of the intelligent and of the politically oppressed.
What follows is a proposed political platform which I believe any intelligent American voter (not dominated by greedy self-interest) could whole-heartedly support.

Therefore, anyone trying to claim that political party affiliation is not a valid demographic group, is either too lazy to have thought this through, or they are trying to reject valid data.
Anyone saying that you should throw out the political party affiliation mentioned in a poll, is selling you soap, because they are trying to throw out valid information.
As for other demographic data, it is self-reported by respondents, and so, when you get down to the nitty gritty, is no more valid, statistically, than the political party affiliation also reported by the respondents.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek - De-Defamation of Dr Qadri
Dr Qadri, surely, was not intending to join the Millat Party but, as is the case with all political negotiation, was trying to establish common references for a potential political alignment.
It would be futile, however, to argue that the Millat Party is a strong vector in Pakistani politics, and Dr Qadri’s political rise, or demise, is hardly intertwined with its fortunes.
As a Pakistani, Khan must realize that PAT, as a party untainted by corruption and greed, as a party driven by the aspiration of the destitute and the disenfranchised, and as a party led by the most able of leaders, provides for the most progressive option in a political landscape haunted by shaky demagoguery.

 Democracy In Action 1999 - Chapter 4
Despite the relatively large number of political parties participating in the electoral process, Israel in its first twenty-nine years was relatively stable, governed as it was by a single dominant coalition, comprised of the Mapai/Labour Alignment working with the leftist-Zionist political parties and the Zionist National Religious Party (NRP).
All-party agreement was eventually reached to hold new prime ministerial elections and elections to the 15th Knesset on Monday, May 17, 1999, with the run-off ballot for prime minister (if required) scheduled for June 1, 1999.
Although the two major parties again finished almost in a tie (Likud took 40 Knesset seats, while Labour won 39), it was generally conceded that Likud was better positioned to form a viable coalition, given the distribution of Knesset seats in favour of Likud's natural partners among the secular-nationalist and religious political parties.

Malaysia: New Politics And A New Party
Out of the euphoria a new political party was born — Parti Keadilan Nasional — and a new alignment of Opposition parties called the Barisan Alernatif took shape, also based on principles of genuine democracy and social justice.
Here was a political movement which immediately won the support and backing of large numbers of Malays, Chinese and Indians (it was essentially a Peninsula affair) from both the lower- and middle-classes, and which also enjoyed support from a large number of those from the professions.
Behind Parti Keadilan Nasional stands Anwar Ibrahim, and if the party is campaigning for his release from prison, it is so that he may lead the Reformasi movement for genuine democracy and social justice, not so that he may rest at home.

Al-Ahram Weekly Region Umma goes home -- alone
The return of 40 Umma leaders provoked speculation that Al-Mahdi is trying to steer his party towards alignment with the ruling Islamist regime headed by President Omar Al-Bashir.
Coming shortly after the Umma Party's withdrawal from the umbrella opposition group, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), this return is consistent with pronouncements made by the party's leader, Sadiq Al-Mahdi.
Some reports in Sudanese newspapers indicated that the Umma Party might also be heading towards a major split due to the disapproval of several figures of Al-Mahdi's reconciliation policy.

 17. Falsification Of Past
It is also that no change in doctrine or in political alignment can ever be admitted.
And since the Party is in full control of all records and in equally full control of the minds of its members, it follows that the past is whatever the Party chooses to make it.
In this way every prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have been correct; nor was any item of news, or any expression of opinion, which conflicted with the needs of the moment, ever allowed to remain on record.

 Jensen,HISTORIOGRAPHY 1984
The broadest studies were James L. Sundquist's Dynamics of the Party System: Alignment and Realignment of Political Parties in the United States (Washington, D.C., 1983) and Partisan Realignment: Voters, Parties, and Government in American History (Beverly Hills, Calif., 1981) by Jerome M. Clubb, William H. Flanigan, and Nancy H. Zingale.
Political history was by no means the only concern of the social science historians--indeed, the "new social history" was the major component, and it is possible to see certain forms of the new political history, especially the ethnocultural studies, as essentially social rather than political in direction.
Political biography thus is a frustrating genre, difficult to integrate with the conceptual framework or methodological advances that have charactenzed political history.
