As all bluegrass bands must, Alison Krauss and Union Station toured extensively in 1995, but unlike any bluegrass band before them, they were besieged by huge crowds at their own shows, and also played as the opening act for the likes of Bob Dylan, Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam and Alan Jackson.
Krauss does seem to have the perfect voice for love songs and heartbreak songs, so it shouldn't be surprising that she sings so many of them on the new album, but the fact that eight of her nine songs are slower tunes was more coincidence than anything premeditated.
As the band tours, no doubt Alison will be keeping her ear out for songs that might be suitable for the next Alison Krauss and Union Station project, although hopefully it won't be five years in the making.

Between her 1987 debut Too Late to Cry and Now That I've Found You, she matured from a child prodigy to a versatile, ambitious, and diverse musician and, in the process, made some of the freshest bluegrass of the late '80s and early '90s.
