Alison Moyet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alison Moyet (born Genevieve Alison Jane Moyet on 18 June 1961), is an English pop singer noted for her bluesy voice.
Moyet was born in Billericay, Essex, UK to a French father and English mother.
Moyet's next album Essex (1994) was also a source of controversy for her; in order for the album to be released, her label (now Sony) insisted that certain Essex tracks be re-recorded and re-produced, and that there be additional material remixed to create a more 'commercial' package.

Alison Moyet rose to fame in her native England in the early Eighties as half of the short-lived but influential techno-pop duo Yazoo [known as Yaz in the US].
Alison Moyet's exceptional voice first came to the world's attention when she was half of Yazoo, the hugely successful synth-pop duo she founded in 1981 with former Depeche Mode keyboard player Vince Clarke.
Vince Clarke and Genevieve Alison Moyet (otherwise known as Alf) were together as Yazoo little over a year (1982-3) but from the instant stardom of their debut single 'Only You' onwards they made records that captured the imagination of everyone from Smash Hits to the Daily Telegraph.

Yazoo (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The group was formed in 1981, using a moniker that Alison Moyet, veteran of a number of southeast Essex based punk and rock bands, had seen on the labels of old blues albums: 'Yazoo'.
Moyet decided to venture off on a solo career, signing to Columbia Records, where she would enjoy a great deal of early success.
Clarke was tapped to remix Moyet's 1994 single, "Whispering Your Name" and with Erasure, Clarke and Moyet tried to record her single "This House" as a duet.

 Alison Moyet: Voice
The other big, big moment here is when Moyet performs “Cry Me a River.” First, because it again anchors her within the tradition of pop music chanteuse, recalling jazzy pop singer Julie London as well as the early club days of Sade, who used to perform a knockout version of the song with her band.
Again, Moyet resists the urge to belt it out, not because she can’t (which her fans certainly know) but because she is making different choices, and that’s the mark of a mature singer.
Moyet’s collaborator on this CD is pianist/arranger Anne Dudley, who is perhaps best known as one third of the British experimental pop band Art of Noise.
