		The authorities in southern Afghanistan have said they have destroyed a large consignment of hashish and heroin in an attempt to eliminate the problem of opium-based drugs.
		Kandahar's provincial minister for Narcotics and Drugs Control, Ahmadullah Alizai, told the BBC that the authorities had burned about 100 kilograms of heroin and 200 kilograms of hashish recently taken from smugglers.
		Mr Alizai said the country's interim administration was working with the United Nations agency responsible for drugs control, and was determined to rid Afghanistan of all drug-smuggling activities.
