  All About the Benjamins (2002)
All About the Benjamins, Cube's latest writing/starring (and now producing) effort shows that the ex-N.W.A. star's vision is still keen.
Arguably Cube's most entertaining film after Three Kings, Benjamins is one helluva romp, borrowing the Florida milieu of Bad Boys but injecting it with the stylish sass of Guy Ritchie's British crime capers.
However, with Epps delivering a steady stream of zingers (his lambasting of the requisite European bad guy is classic), Mendes and slinky baddie Carmen Chaplin (granddaughter of Charlie) providing eye candy, and Cube's script showing flashes of wacko originality (dig that shower-torture scene!), the film's faults melt away under the hot Miami sun.

If All About the Benjamins sounds familiar, it is because it is. This degenerates into a buddy cop type movie (although neither Cube nor Epps play cops) where Jackson is the no-nonsense straight man and Wright is the comic relief.
Most of his dialogue consists either of him complaining about his missing ticket or something else, or cheap attempts at humor, most of which fail.
Jackson and Wright are stupid too, but they are the good guys so they are always finding their way out of bad situations.

IGN: All About the Benjamins Review
In All About the Benjamins, Cube is Bucum Jackson, long-time employee of Martinez Bail Bonds in Miami; he's a minor-league bounty hunter looking for a major-league bust, something to grant the notoriety (and cash) he needs to open his own private investigation agency.
Granted, All About the Benjamins has stereotypical characters, however, with Cube as the straight-man and Epps as the funny-man blending a conflicting chemistry, it's invariably amusing.
The cat and mouse antics and sharp banter between Bucum and Reggie is never lacking, however the same can’t be said for All About the Benjamins’ somewhat tangential plotline; it manages on a farfetched scenario.

All About the Benjamins Movie Review at Hollywood Video
Not to be mistaken for a Cannes finalist, All About the Benjamins is an obvious attempt at looking, feeling and sounding like a blockbuster — but the film falls on its face, leaning heavily on big-money stunt work, a confusing and often predictable script, and no real love interest.
Bucum's chance to score the "Benjamins" required to fulfill his dream of opening his own private-investigator business begins to materialize when he arrests small-time con artist Reggie Wright (Mike Epps, a poor man's Chris Tucker, plays Reggie with a barrage of gratuitous mugging and wincing imitations).
This is about when most audience members begin to realize that the film plot is so improbable and silly that they hope that there might be some buddy comedy between the Cube and Epps, which might make the remainder of the film bearable.

"All About the Benjamins" - Salon
Even in the realm of pure, cheap entertainment -- a category that should never be undervalued -- there's no reason to settle for a half-assed action-comedy like "All About the Benjamins." "Benjamins" has exactly one thing going for it, and his name is Ice Cube.
But "All About the Benjamins" (for those who are Top 40-challenged, the "Benjamins" in the title is street slang for $100 bills) feels as if it were spit out of a machine.
"All About the Benjamins" is a story about two down-and-out guys who get into some deep trouble but somehow end up bettering their lot.

Speaking of Scarface, as in the 1983 remake, there’s one truly unpleasant torture scene in All About the Benjamins that is reminiscent of a scene in the former film, which was also shot in Miami.
All About the Benjamins’ occasional brutality tends to undermine some of its attempts at comedy.

That's the idea behind All About the Benjamins, and for those who are unhip to the term "Benjamins" (referring to hundred-dollar bills), no, it's not about a couple guys named Benjamin.
With Benjamins, Cube further proves his resilience as an actor, and he appears mostly responsible for nearly all that is good about this film.
He is, in fact, the main problem with All About the Benjamins, which comes from his lack of attention to detail and overzealous taste for violence and explosions.

 All About The Benjamins (2002)
In All About The Benjamins, Cube is a bounty hunter whose foremost quarry seems to be Mike Epps, a two-bit con man whose self-proclaimed "bitch" (Eva Mendes) has just picked the winning numbers for the Florida State Lottery.
Instead of a self-realized character built on survivor's instinct, which is what Cube's public persona presents, we are given a shameless opportunist who does not seem to care about much that isn't materialistic.
The sad thing is, the makers of All About The Benjamins seem to think that audiences are completely mindless and gullible, and want only to see films which elevate the inanity and worthlessness of materialism and self-centeredness.

"All About the Benjamins," the latest in a steady stream of shoot-'em-up, bang-'em-up, hip-hop-influenced throwaway action comedies, nearly transcends its main influence - hip-hop music videos.
"All About the Benjamins" shows its seams and often aims for the lower extremities, but thanks in large part to Ice Cube's workmanlike performance - which manages to transcend the material he co-wrote - the film isn't a total wash.

All About the Benjamins is one of those movies that tries to be both an action-packed shoot-'em-up and a laugh-filled comedy and fails to be either.

It's not fair to quibble about the illogical events any more than would be the case in an Arnold Schwarzenegger or James Bond film.
Some of the silly action and quips in the film are funny, as when Reggie is pretending to be the first fl American President or posing as the hood ornament on a Rolls Royce.

 All About the Benjamins
Blaxploitation without the sex, All About the Benjamins is a gratuitously violent film laudably free of the pretense of political correctness, but it's so calamitously loud and arbitrary (and has a character who fits the same description) that it fritters away almost as much good will as it earns.
The only things separating All About the Benjamins from other whip-edited, hard-action movies are Ice Cube's joyfully offensive screenplay (co-written with Ronald Lang) and an opening set in a confederate's dream of a trailer park that does more for exploding the race issue in these United States than the past five Denzel Washington pulpits.

But as a frustrated Cube (who co-wrote the script) and a frantic Epps snipe at each other in street-smart odd-couple fashion, they keep the grins coming at a steady enough pace that "Benjamins" delivers on the comedy front while director Kevin Bray keeps the action tight.
A veteran of 100-plus music videos, Bray provides the flick with an energetic visual style of freeze-frames, kinetic camera angles, over-exposed color and staccato editing that serves the story well.
