Allameh Tabatabaei (1892-1981) is one of the most prominent thinkers of contemporary Shia Islam.
Others like Nasr and Hasanzadeh Amuli remained and continued their studies in the intellectual non-political sphere.
His method, style, and approach are uniquely different from those of all other exegetes of the Qur'an.

Allameh Tabatabaii University (Persian: دانشگاه علامه طباطبایی), is Iran's only specialized university in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The university is named after a prominent Shia scholar of the 20th century, Allameh Tabatabaei, who authored the famous Tafsir al-Mizan.
The university was established in 1984 by merging a dozen or more institutes of higher education.

Professor Nasr was also a student of Allameh Tabatabaei, a spiritual scholar whose commentary on the Holy Koran Tafsir al-Mizan is widely known as one of the best commnetaries.
That was when Nasr, Tabatabaei, William Chittick, Kenneth Morgan, Sachiko Murata, Toshihiko Izutsu, and Henry Corbin would meet and hold various philosophical discourses.

Allameh Seyyed Jalaleddin Ashtiani was one of the few contemporary Islamic scholars with a complete mastery of religious sciences, philosophy and mysticism.
Allameh Ashtiani started teaching at the Logic and Philosophy Department of Mashhad Ferdowsi University in Sept. 1959.
Allameh Ashtiani died of a prolonged disease on March 23, 2005.

The former head of the Management and Planning Organization (MPO) has called for changes in the government and budgeting systems, which are heavily reliant on oil revenues.
Mohammad Sattarifar, who now teaches economics at the University of Allameh Tabatabaei, believes that the only way by which the government can reduce the adverse consequences of its reliance on oil revenues is to make optimum use of oil money.
He told ISNA that while budgeting is a 55-year-old practice in Iran, the officialdom’s outlook on its modus operandi has to be revised.

About 150 students of Tehran University’s Faculty of Social Science held a sit-in protest to denounce a judicial verdict against one of the instructors of the Allameh Tabatabaei University.
The sit-in protest lasted for two hours at the end of which they issued a statement protesting the verdict against the university teacher and other political activists of the academic community.
