Allan Wipper Wells (born May 3, 1952) is a former Scottish athlete.
Born in Edinburgh, Wells was initially a triple jumper and long jumper and started to concentrate on the sprint events in the early 1970s.
Wells never used the starting blocks until a rule change forced him to do so for the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

The caricatures of Welles and his crew are accurate, but the drawing lacks subtlety and is devoid of any sort of interesting or evocative rendering effects.
This story is well known, but the illustrator's work and interpretation made certain that even knowing the story well, I never skimmed or skipped over a panel or missed a syllable.
