Krishnarayalu’s reign was the golden age of Telugu literature.
These Astadiggajas were: Allasani Peddana, Nandi Thimmana, Madayyagari Mallana, Dhurjati, Ayyalaraju Ramambhadrudu, Pingali Surana, Ramarajabhushanudu, and Tenali Ramakrishnudu.
Among these eight poets Allasani Peddana is considered to be the greatest and is given the title of Andhra Kavita Pitamaha (the father of Telugu poetry).

Bhattu Murti was probably a disciple of Allasani Peddana and as such would have attended the court of Krishna Deva Raya as a teenager.
Never-theless his kavya a typical prabandha is in all respects a real rival to Peddana’s ‘Manu Charitra’ though their works are very much different in style and conception.
Like Peddana’s poetry his verses sound pleasing to the ear but they are more scholarly and also at times more musical in rhythm.

Peddana was known to be a staunch viShNu Bhakta.
peddana is on record as saying that if kRShNa dEvarAya saw him walking in the street, he would make his royal elephant stop, pick peddana up and give him a ride.

The Ashta Diggajas in Bhuvana Vijayam are Allasani Peddana, Nandi Thimmana, Dhurjati, Madayya Gari Mallana, Pingali Surana, Tenali Rama Krishnudu, Ayyala Raju Rama Bhadrudu and Rama Raja Bhushanudu.
