The Village of Allegany is by the east town line of the Town of Allegany, west of the City of Olean.
The village is located north of the Allegheny River, and New York State Route 417 passes through the village.
In the village the population was spread out with 20.6% under the age of 18, 16.9% from 18 to 24, 20.2% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older.

The largest collection of New York church records is probably that of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the State of New York Cemetery, Church, and Town Records.
Besides the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, these volumes are available at the New York State Library and on film at the New York Public Library, the FHL, and in other libraries.
For western New York there is a collection of church records compiled by the Study Center for Early Religious Life in Western New York at Ithaca College; the study center is now defunct, but the collection is available at the Department of Manuscripts and University Archives, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York 14853-5310.

Allegany County is located in the Southern Tier of Western New York in an eroded plateau of the Allegany Mountains, approximately 40-70 miles due south of Rochester and has about 50,000 inhabitants.
Although they never were in what would become Allegany County, soldiers serving under Generals Sullivan and Clinton during their 1779 campaign to eradicate the Indians from western New York, would soon be some of the first settlers in the Genesee Valley.
Allegany County is fortunate to be located on Interstate 86 and is also being served by the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad.

In 1985 and 1986, the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) studied the cancer incidence between 1973 and 1983 among the residents of the Village of Wellsville.
The Village of Wellsville has about 10,000 residents and is seven miles north of the State of New York and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania border (Figure 1, Appendix A).
During the late 1970's and early 1980, citizens of the Village of Wellsville complained to government officials of intermittent "oily" tastes and odors in their water and that debris from the Landfill Area was eroding into the Genesee River.

In any case, the CCC men in Camp 18 was near the German Village area of the park and closed on October 9, 1937.
It is clear from the enthusiasm of the Historical Society for the CCCs, that the enrollees who worked in Allegany State park contributed and continue to contribute greatly to the society of that region by their hard work in making Allegany State park an enjoyable and accessible natural resource for many generations.

 Friendship Village, New York
Indeed, for many years this eastern part of the present village was the chief center of trade and all business, and it was not until the construction and operation of the railroad that the location was changed.
Between 1870 and 1880 the village suffered serious losses through fire, yet we are told that fire is a great “purifier and renewer.” The old burned structures were replaced with new, many of the latter being of brick, substantial and ornamental.
The same is also true of the dwellings of the village, all “built from the stump,” secure in construction and pleasing in appearance.
