Allegany County is a county located in the western portion of the U.S. state of Maryland.
Allegany County was formed in 1789 by the splitting of Washington County.
In the county the population is spread out with 20.60% under the age of 18, 11.20% from 18 to 24, 26.80% from 25 to 44, 23.50% from 45 to 64, and 17.90% who are 65 years of age or older.

The eastern boundary of Tryon County was approximately five miles west of the present city of Schenectady, and the county included the western part of the Adirondack Mountains and the area west of the West Branch of the Delaware River.
Allegany County is in the southwestern part of New York State, along the Pennsylvania border.
Because the county is on the south border of the state, its neighbors are McKean and Potter Counties in Pennsylvania.

Allegany County concluded that its economic future depends heavily on the ability to offer business and residential users carrier-class broadband services.
Spearheaded by county networking supervisor Jeff Blank, civic leaders formed AllCoNet as a self-operated municipal carrier to deploy wireless broadband solutions using both 6 GHz licensed frequency bands for a point-to-point ring around the network as well as unlicensed frequency bands for point-to-multipoint to offer reliable, cost-effective broadband connections.
