Allegany County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York.
This was an enormous county, including the northern part of New York State as well as all of the present State of Vermont and, in theory, extending westward to the Pacific Ocean.
Allegany County is in the southwestern part of New York State, along the Pennsylvania border.

From 1812 to 1814, Cattaraugus County was incorporated in Allegany County; from 1814 to 1817, records of the county were divided between Belmont (Allegany County) and Buffalo (then in Niagara County).
The southern part of Cattaraugus County is the only area of western New York that was not covered by the last ice_age glaciation and is noticeably more rugged than neighboring areas that had peaks rounded and valleys fille by the glacier.
Because Cattaraugus County is on the south border of New York, it borders Warren and McKean Counties in Pennsylvania.

 Lackawanna, New York
In 1842 a compromise was finally made and the Buffalo Creek and Tonawanda Reservations were sold to the Ogden Land Company permitting the Senecas to retain the Cattaraugus and Allegany Reservations, to which they withdrew.
The whites moved in and on October 16th, 1851, the Town of "Seneca" was formed by the Erie County Board of Supervisors from a division of Hamburg and Cheektowaga.
The authorized capital of this new venture was $60,000,000 of which one third was issued, share for share, for the stock of an old Scranton Company, the Lackawanna Iron and Steel Company.

We usually camp in state parks because we like the sites to be bigger and woodsy with hiking, a lake or pond, etc, and a playground for the kids.
We are thinking of taking advantage of the beautiful forecast this weekend and this is one of the few campgrounds in the area that is open this early, but we've never been to Allegany Park and would hate for our first weekend out to be a disappointment.
Once retired and we are doing the trevel thing, Allegany is one of our former haunts that we plan to visit.
