The Allegheny County Airport Authority unveiled a $134.8 million budget for 2005 Friday that could force it to shut down part of Concourse B at Pittsburgh International Airport to make ends meet.
The nine-member Airport Authority board will present the budget, which includes a higher fee schedule, next week to airlines, which are the authority's main source of revenue.

Those members say that while development and master planning should remain in the hands of elected county officials, day-to-day operations such as procurement and contract awarding should be handled independently.
Under a proposal approved in April by the commission and submitted by Chairwoman Barbara Carey-Shuler, the 15-member committee is to design and submit a proposal to the commission by September for an authority to run day-to-day operations of all county airports, with the commission to remain responsible for airport oversight.

As built in 1931, the Allegheny County Airport included three runways: 5-23 = 2547 ft; 13-31 = 3825 ft; and the main runway, 10-28, which was approximately 5,500 ft long when first opened.
It was thought with the opening of the new airport in 1952 that the Allegheny County Airport (AGC) would fade into obscurity.
