Allegiance (computer game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Allegiance is a unique computer game, with a mix of real-time strategy and player piloted space combat, initially developed by Microsoft (specifically, Microsoft Research) and now developed by the community since the source code release.
Allegiance was released in March of 2000, after an extended beta test period.
Games are normally two team matches, though it is common for Deathmatch games to be multi-team affairs.

 Allegiance -
Allegiance is the duty which a subject or a citizen owes to the state or to the sovereign of the state to which he belongs.
Allegiance is the tie which binds the subject to the Sovereign in return for that protection which the Sovereign affords the subject.
Allegiance is owed both to the Sovereign as a natural person and to the Sovereign in his or her political capacity (Re Stepney Election Petition, Isaacson v Durant (1886) 17 QBD 54 (per Lord Coleridge CJ)).

Game Studies - Computer Games Have Words, Too: Dialogue Conventions in Final Fantasy VII
Since most people think of computer games as a visual medium, the primary faith in the evolution of games resides in improving the technology for their visual presentation.
As long as we consider games to be primarily visual, it makes sense for both designers looking to shape the future and for critics wanting to explain present games to concentrate on the visual expressivity of this young medium.
The overall character arc of the game is a familiar one from the action film: Cloud the itinerant soldier-for-hire must progress from his initial state of caring for nothing but himself and his own financial gain to embracing the rebel cause, even when it means sacrificing for the other members of the team.

Sometimes, at the end of the game, the player will encounter a special "boss" character who, like the Hitman, can survive a few dozen pistol shots to the chest, but even these special foes die in seconds from headshots or automatic rifle fire (most can also be strangled, poisoned, or sniped without a fight).
Unlike most games where the player is thrust into a hostile world and must kill to survive, Hitman: Codename 47 mostly takes place in neutral environments such as hotels, restaurants, or city streets, and the impetus is on 47 to initiate the violence.

Game Studies - Play Along - An Approach to Videogame Music
While game studies is becoming increasingly assimilated into current strains of academic discourse, "grand unified theories" of games fail to account for the ways by which the musical soundtrack of a game affects the user's experience and creates a seamless impression of gameplay.
In survival horror games, the game sequence is for the most part the same as platform and adventure games, but the musical choices are not as straightforward.
The dominant problem of adventure and survival horror games is puzzle solving, and the survival horror game is differentiated from standard adventure games in that armies of zombies and other undead creatures often block the path to puzzles' solutions and the total atmosphere is densely creepy.
