AllMusic has always had a bad design (those GIFs from 1996 were hot!), but it used to be fine because the content shone through.
The allmusic content is great -- it's one of the few reference sites I look at on an almost daily basis -- but this craptastic design (which, as waxy notes, is even craptasticker than the last) just makes it harder to get at.

TwoEyes.org » AllMusic Redesign   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
AllMusic is one of the best sites on the web for independent album reviews, biography information, discographies and the like.
The redesign could have been taken as an opportunity to fully modernise the AllMusic Guide, embracing web design's best-practices to create something which will be both accessible to the widest of audiences and also be a platform to further develop and extend the service in the future.
Secondly, whilst I appreciate that it is a free service and must be funded somehow, their choices of how to do this seem cobbled together at best.

allmusic seems to have what Amazon has (minus the user reviews, which I sometimes find useful) but gives much more information about the band you’re looking at.
Unfortunately, their last site redesign has made it occasionally run really slow (the pages are big), but the astounding wealth of information is really worth it.
Something else: Barnes & Noble and (I think) Amazon (among others) sometimes/often use the album reviews from allmusic on their pages either in place of their own review or in addition to their own review.

Firefox extension for Allmusic | MetaFilter
Last month, people voiced their disappointment with AllMusic's for-the-worse facelift, and a week later someone at holovaty.com wrote a Mozilla Firefox extension that "routs around the damage" and allows for cleaner browsing.
Allmusic fixed their new design to work with Firefox, Opera, etc. after getting completely hammered when they launched the site.
I was honestly stunned at the inefficiency of the new Allmusic design, and can only believe they fell prey to the "more clicks at all costs" mentality that's affected so many other sites.

Allmusic is by far the most popular music page on the web.

However, the whole allmusic debacle seems to me to be as much about bad and misguided design as 'Opera discrimination'.

 Orange Cone: allmusic.com's bad redesign
The AllMusic relaunch is the worst I've seen in maybe five years.
If not actively spreading the word about how bad the site is, they'll not be telling others how good it will be, thus diminishing the quality of whatever brand value AllMusic may have had (the other thing the new site was probably set up to do).
At some point, probably two years from now, the company will have laid off everyone, and kept a skeleton crew of editors and writers as freelancers to preserve the illusion of fresh content.
