Alma sits along the border between the Boston Mountains and the Arkansas River Valley, so while most of the city lies on flat land, immediately to the north is scenic hill country.
Alma has quite a broad age distribution, with 32.1% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who are 65 years of age or older.
Alma also has the unfortunate reputation of Morgan Nick (a child from Mulbery, Arkansas visiting the town with her mother.), a seven year old girl who was abducted from Alma's Little League ballpark in June 1995.

Morgan Nick was 6 years old when she disappeared from an Alma baseball park where she had been playing in the sand with other children June 9, 1995.
