		Sheffield, known as Township No. 12 of the second range, was originally part of the unit including Ashtabula, Plymouth and Kingsville.
		When the township was organized in 1820, John Griggs, first justice of the peace, chose the name Sheffield for the new community.
		Earlier, Mather had divided the township into three equal parts runing north and south, these sections given to his three heirs to settle or dispose of as they saw fit.

	Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy Main Page
		On Thursday, December 19, representatives from Almira Township, the family of Max and Beatrice Goin, and the Regional Land Conservancy signed all the papers necessary to establish the Ransom Lake Natural Area.
		Almira Township residents had already formed the group Almira Citizens for Preservation with the motto "working to protect our lakes and land" in April, 2000; they shepherded the effort in partnership with the township and the Regional Conservancy.
		The Township has established a committee to finalize the regulations for public recreation on the property; they are currently at work on an appropriate management plan.

	Committee seeks to create a veterans memorial pavilion in Almira Township
		LAKE ANN - An Almira Township veterans memorial committee wants something more than a plaque or a statue set out on the side of a road.
		They want a memorial that is an open-air pavilion in the shape of a pentagon large enough to host a memorial service or wedding in a wooded setting at the township park.
		Township supervisor Steve Puchovan said the memorial will be a place in Benzie County for someone to go for peace and quiet or for services on Memorial Day.

		Almira Township has a booming population, which prompted the Benzie County Central School district to open a new elementary school there six years ago.
