The former town of Almonte, in Ontario, Canada, is now a ward of the town of Mississippi Mills, created on January 1, 1998 by the merging of Almonte with Ramsay township and Pakenham.
Almonte's first settler was David Shepherd, who in 1819 was given 200 acres by the Crown to build and operate a mill.
Almonte and District High School serves the town of Almonte and much of the surrounding area.

The Ottawa Reformed Presbyterian Church was officially organized on May 27, 1981, in Almonte, Ontario, by the St. Lawrence Presbytery of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America.
The pastors from Almonte and Lisbon took turns conducting the services, and some of the Almonte people were there faithfully every Sabbath.
Matthew Dyck graduated in 1997 and became pastor of Almonte R.P. Church early in 1998.

These probably were used in the early Almonte woollen mills because water turbines operate under water, are not affected by ice and can run all winter.
In the 1880's, the major woollen mills in Ontario were the A W Brodie and the R Forbes mills in Hespeler, the Cornwall Manufacturing Co in Cornwall, and the Rosamond and Victoria woollen mills in Almonte, while Sherbrooke, Quebec, had the Paton Manufacturing Company.
The Rosamond family, situated in Almonte the major woollen manufacturing centre a century ago, and the model Rosamond mill they built, are a natural choice for historic recognition of Canada's woollen textile industry.
