Pegasus (constellation) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A star in this constellation, 51 Pegasi, is orbited by the first true extrasolar planet (planets orbiting a star other than the Sun) to have been discovered.
The star Delta Pegasi (labeled "Sirrah" in the map), one of the 4 stars in Pegasus' square, is now considered to be part of Andromeda, (andalpha; Andromedae) and is more usually called "Alpheratz." By moving the star, the square became a triangle attached to a stick body, thus resembling a wing.
The stars andepsilon; Peg and andtheta; Peg belong to the hind legs, with andepsilon; being of the third magnitude.

The four stars in the Great Square are Scheat (Belta Pegasi) in the northwest corner, Markab (Alpha Pegasi) in the southeast corner, Algenib (Gamma Pegasi) in the northeast corner, and Alpheratz (Delta Pegasi) in the southwest corner.
In 1995 the star Pegasi 51 was shown as large as the size of the planet Jupiter.
Pegasi 51 was located halfway between Alpha and Belta Pegasi, slightly westward.

 85 Pegasi 3
(1931-93), 85 Pegasi was found to be a fairly close binary by noted double-star observer Sherburne Wesley Burnham (1838-1921) with the 18-inch refractor at Dearborn in 1878, who listed it in his catalogue as BU 733.
Based on measurements of the star's abundance of iron, 85 Pegasi A may be 58 to 75 percent as enriched as Sol with elements heavier than hydrogen ("metallicity") (Fernandes et al, 2002; and Cayrel de Strobel et al, 1991, page 312; and Wallerstein and Helper, 1958).
Although speckle interferometric analysis once suggested that 85 Pegasi A itself might have a close stellar companion, the observation was not confirmed and is now considered to be spurious (Wulff Dietz Heintz, 1993; and the Yale Bright Star Catalogue, 1991 5th Revised Edition's notes entry for HR 9088).

 51 Pegasi
It lies near the center (22:57:28+20:46:7.8, ICRS 2000.0) of Constellation Pegasus, the Winged Horse -- northwest of Markab (Alpha Pegasi) and southwest of Scheat (Beta Pegasi).
As 51 Pegasi has become one of the top 100 target stars for NASA's planned Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF), images of this star and its position relative to the Milky Way in Earth's night sky are now available from the TPF-C team.
In 1995, astronomers (Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz) announced the discovery of a Jupiter-class planet around 51 Pegasi using radial-velocity methods (Mayor and Queloz, 1995; and 51 Pegasi at the Observatoire de Genève).
