		At first the rails protruded above street level, causing accidents and major trouble for pedestrians.
		They were supplanted in 1852 by grooved rails or girder rails, invented by Alphonse Loubat.
		The first tram in France was inaugurated in 1853 for the upcoming World's Fair, where a test line was presented along the Cours de la Reine, in the 8th arrondissement.

		Alphonse Loubat, né le 27 Prairial an VII (15 juin 1799) dans le Lot-et-Garonne, fait partie de ces hommes entreprenant du XIXe siècle qui investissent, cherchent à faire aboutir leurs projets ou leurs idées un peu par leurs opiniâtreté, leurs relations, leur argent et tout autre moyen.
		C’est cette intense activité qui vaudra sûrement à Alphonse Loubat, d’être dénommé "l’ingénieur Loubat" dans de très nombreux écrits destinés au grand public faisant référence à l’invention du tramway.
		Alphonse Loubat construit au milieu des années 1850 le château des Bruyères à Sèvres (actuelle résidence du parc Eiffel), qui sera racheté en 1867 par le banquier Gustave Girod, puis en 1890 par Gustave Eiffel, puis une partie par Camille Flammarion.

		Depuis, je recolle les morceaux de cette épopée d'Alphonse Loubat, Sévrien et entrepreneur de premier ordre.
		-Alphonse Loubat invente le tramway parisien : Après avoir observé les débuts du tramway à partir de 1932 à New York, il importe ce "Système d'application de chemin de fer à ornières" pour lequel il obtient un brevet le 9 décembre 1852.

		Initially developed by John Mason on regular railroad tracks between Prince and Fourteenth streets in Manhattan in 1832, the horse-drawn streetcar, popularly known as the horsecar, combined the low cost, flexibility, and safety of animal power with the efficiency, smoothness, and all-weather capability of a rail right-of-way.
		The great expansion of horse-drawn railways came after 1852, when Alphonse Loubat developed a grooved rail that lay flush with the pavement.
		This was an essential improvement because the earliest horsecars had used rails that protruded six inches or more above street level, seriously interfering with coach and wagon traffic.
