The XX Olympic Winter Games will be held in Turin, Italy from February 10 to February 26, 2006.
This will be the second time that Italy has hosted the Olympic Winter Games, as it hosted the VII Olympic Winter Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956, and the third time overall that Italy will have hosted an Olympic Games, as it also hosted the Games of the XVII Olympiad in Rome in 1960.
The Olympic mascots of Torino 2006 are Neve, a female snowball, and Gliz, a male ice cube.

Alpine Skiing became part of the Olympics in 1936, but separate categories weren't developed until the next Winter Games in 1948 when the Downhill, Slalom and Combined events were instituted.
He failed to medal in the 1998 Olympics, but won five medals in the previous two Olympics, including a gold in the 1992 Super-G. Austria and Switzerland don't normally dominate the women's side of the sport, but Austrians Michaela Dorfmeister and Renate Goetschl are among the best in the world.
She is one of only four American women to win two Olympic medals in alpine skiing, and a medal at the Salt Lake Games would make her the first American skier -- male or female -- to win three Olympic skiing medals.
