Mountaineering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mountaineering is the sport or hobby of climbing mountains and is sometimes also known as alpinism, particularly in Europe.
It may be said to consist of two main aspects, rock-craft and snow-craft, depending on whether the route chosen is over rock or over snow and ice.
Therefore, April 26, 1336 is regarded as the "birthday of alpinism", and Petrarch (Petrarca alpinista) as the "father of alpinism".

Since then, the sport of alpinism has become more widespread and is practiced all over the world.
Alpinism generally is not any one of those activities, but rather requires a skill set that reflects a mix of many different climbing disciplines.
Unlike sport rock climbing, alpinism requires a great deal of exposure to the weather(snow storms, winds, cold, etc.) and objective hazzards(avalanches, crevasses, falling rocks and ice, etc.).

The belts of the backpacks for alpinism will be narrow, they won’t interfere with the harness, while the expedition models will need shoulder pads and wide belts which allow you take big loads.
Most of the alpinism backpacks have just a top opening system to fill them out, because this design works better against the inclemencies of the body, it doesn't need zippers and prevents that your gear scatters out when you open it.
