		The original Altered Beast arcade game was released in 1988 by gaming giant SEGA that put gamers in the role of a mythical hero who had been raised from the dead in order to rescue the daughter of Zeus and Athena.
		The gameplay of Altered Beast 2 is broken up into a variety of different levels and after beating a boss from one area you'll gain a new transformation and move to the next stage.
		Altered Beast 2 wouldn't be an Altered Beast game without morphing into monsters but unfortunately there are only a handful of monsters that you can change into, but they alter gameplay significantly.

	Altered Beast
		Altered Beast was a corking, ripping, snorting game as a coin-op with all sorts of fab 'n' groovy undead beasties to beat up, not to mention a whole googolbyte of sound and graphics.
		Altered is as fast as it can be for the amount that's going on, and it rates a higher score for that, but it does judder a bit.
		The game is quite satisfying as beat-'em-ups go, and my only real criticisms are a) if anything the levels are too short, b) shame the players look like they're doing ballet kicks rather than karate, and c) with the background and 400 bits of zombie flying around it's hard to see what's going on.

		Altered Beast even back then was good for a very short session or two, but not one of the better games, IMO.

		Originally an arcade game, Altered Beast is a simplistic but fun and fairly cool side-scroller (no platform jumping) in which you are employed by God (or some kind of god, anyway) to rescue his daughter from the giant rhinoceros who rules the underworld.
		In each stage you begin in your normal human form, but one particular enemy (the blue-white wolves) leaves behind a powerup when killed (the only powerup in the game).
		You become a wolf in the first stage, a dragon in the second, a tiger in the third, and a bear in the fourth.

		The core is still to battle through hordes of enemies and, when things start to overwhelm you, to 'alter' your character into one of a number of 'beasts', to ease the kicking of mutant booty.
