Altona's southern boundary is Skeleton Creek (separating it from Werribee), and its opposite boundary is Kororoit Creek (separating it from Williamstown).
Altona's growth was slow, although enjoying moments of fame when early aeroplane flights were made by Gaston Cugnot (for the French Bleriot planes), and by Joseph Hammond in 1910 and 1911.
Altona was a destination for many postwar European migrants, and temporary and hostel accommodation was provided at the Williamstown racecourse and later on land on the other side of the Kororoit Creek at Wiltona Hostel.

As membership got bigger, the scout hall was not large enough anymore and we changed venue to the Altona Meadows Community Centre as a permanent group user in October 1996.
The club is heavily involved in many community activities such as the Altona Bayside Festival which falls on the third weekend in March each year when the club organises the fishing competition at Cherry Lake in Altona on Saturday, dominated by the local school children.
The club hosts the annual Ray White – Laverton childrens' competition in December at Cherry Lake – Altona which is the delight of the school children hoping to harness a prize.

 Stone Upon A Stone
On a mushrooming season we would go together on a cold and foggy morning to pick mushrooms for this was the way of life to get extra pocket money (its not like today).
I often think about this wall, what was it used for, did the home owners take the stones to use for their garden surrounds, it may be so.
I built a home at 35 McBain Street, Altona for the family to live in, wonderful family very much like my stone, strong and tall in many ways.
