	SMU Alumna Harriet Miers - Nominated to U.S. Supreme Court
		President George W. Bush has nominated Harriet Miers, his White House counsel and an SMU alumna, to be the 110th associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
		Miers received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from SMU in 1967 and was elected to the honorary society, Mortar Board.
		“We are extremely proud of alumna Harriet Miers as President Bush’s nominee to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States,” said Turner.

	Judge Brinkema alumna profile
		Leonie Brinkema, Cornell J.D. '76, recently made headlines as the judge in the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui, who on May 4 was convicted of being an accomplice in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
		Brinkema's words to the defendant following the jury's verdict and prior to sentencing Moussaoui to life imprisonment not only earned her applause from many quarters ("Bravo, Brinkema," wrote the New York Post) but also seemed to capture the sentiments of the public at large.

	Columbia News ::: School of the Arts Professor and Alumna Team Up to Produce "Ball in the House"
		Ira Deutchman, associate professor and supervisor of the producing concentration in the School of the Arts Graduate Film Division, has teamed up with alumna Tanya Wexler (MFA 1995, Directing) to produce the film "Ball in the House," which screened at the Toronto Film Festival in September.
		The film was produced by Redeemable Features, of which Deutchman is a founding partner, and Chimera Films, co-founded by Wexler.
		In 1998, she and Stephen Dyer formed Chimera films after they produced her debut film, "Finding North," which premiered to sold-out audiences at the 1998 Palm Springs International Film Festival.

	Alumna Receives MacArthur "Genius" Grant
		A University of Memphis alumna has been named one of 23 MacArthur Fellows for 2004.
		C.D. Wright, an accomplished writer and professor of English at Brown University, will receive the $500,000 "genius grant" over the next five years.
