  Cornell College - Ram Report
Alumni Gymnasium served as the epicenter of physical, recreational and athletic activity at Cornell College during the first half of the 1900s.
Dedicated in 1909, Alumni was home to 16 Midwest Conference championships - 12 in wrestling and four in men's basketball - fulfilling a prediction made by a 1907 Cornellian editorial encouraging student contributions to the gymnasium fund.
Alumni was home to six Olympic wrestlers and hosted training runs by Glenn Cunningham, former director of athletics at Cornell and a two-time Olympian in distance running.

The top-floor gymnasium, where 12 conference championships were claimed in wrestling and four in men's basketball, today holds large teaching studios, a darkroom and classroom space.
When Cornell's new Field House opened in 1953, Alumni was remodeled for the department of health and physical education for women, then later as offices for part-time coaches and college faculty.
In 2001, the college began renovations to convert Alumni for the art department, which was outgrowing space it shared with the music and theater departments in Armstrong Hall of Fine Arts.

A student petition to dance in the armory or the gymnasium was brought before the trustees who agreed to allow the dances.
Despite the usefulness of the Gymnasium and Armory which is evidenced by the varied use of the building, the gymnasium hindered the comeuppance of basketball as a spectator sport.
The gymnasium was so small that, for all practical purposes, no spectators could attend the basketball games.

Alumni Gymnasium houses offices for athletics administration, sports information, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, softball, sports medicine, and locker rooms.

In December 1913, it was moved east to a position about seventy-five feet from the recently constructed Alumni Gymnasium and a few yards south of the Class of 1863 Elm.
After curbing was constructed on East Lane in the summer of 1930, fear that combatants might trip in the heat of the paint fights resulted in another shift, that September, about sixty feet west.
In June 1985—after the Idol’s longest period in one place, construction of the addition to Alumni Gymnasium necessitated the move to a site west of the Science and Engineering Center.

Alumni Gymnasium is the University's first indoor athletic facility.
In 1916, WPI's alumni, concerned about the lack of adequate facilities for athletics at WPI, raised the funds to build students this gym.
Today the building houses the offices of the Department of Physical Education and Athletics, locker rooms, a wrestling facility, a swimming pool, bowling alleys, racquetball courts and offices for coaches.

 Susquehanna University - The Susquehanna 150
The Alumni Gymnasium burned down in January 1934, despite efforts of residents of the adjacent Hassinger Hall, who ran a hose from the second floor to augment efforts of the local fire company.
A new Alumni Gymnasium was constructed on the south end of the campus; in 1958, the library expansion claimed the site of the old gym.
He was a student leader and editor of the Crusader during the tumultuous years of 1967 and 1968, when students protested against compulsory chapel and the rules in loco parentis (in place of the parents).

 Dartmo.: The Buildings of Dartmouth College
A rendering of the new fitness center in the renovated drill hall of Alumni Gymnasium seems to show an elevator blocking much of the thermal window at that end of the building; perhaps there was no choice of where to put it, and on-center was better than off-center…
One of the first things the College did when it took over the Gym from the alumni was to add a central north stair to the eastern and western runs that already led to the main entrance.
Now the school is replacing that narrow central run with a single broad main stair and substituting bicycle racks for the eastern run and a ramp for the western (see plan [pdf]).

The AHS basketball team held their first annual Albion Alumni Basketball game on November 25th in the Craig Anderson High School Gymnasium.
The alumni teams played to a large audience of family, friends and high school students.

 Veterans Memorial Rededication, May 26 - Knox College News
GALESBURG — A refurbished display in Knox College's Memorial Gymnasium, honoring alumni of the college who died fighting for the United States in World Wars I, II Korea and Vietnam, will be rededicated at 4 p.m.
The memorial lists 97 alumni and one faculty member, Curtis Redden, a physical education instructor killed in World War I. Following its completion in 1950, Memorial Gymnasium was named in honor of Knox alumni and students who had served in World Wars I and II.
A memorial display in the lobby was later enlarged to honor Knox alumni who died in Korea and Vietnam.

 Johnston Gym & Knobloch Campus Center
Originally, basketball had not been quite as popular sport at Davidson as it is currently, therefore the Alumni Gymnasium, built around 1916, was not designed to facilitate a growing basketball program.
The building’s conditions were so poor, that by the late 1930s and early 1940s, schools such as Duke, North Carolina State, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill would not allow their basketball teams to play in the gym, because they feared for the players' safety ("For Such a Time" 6).
The building was named after the Knobloch Family, which had two daughters that were alumnae of the college, for their contributions to the construction.
