Alumni Stadium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alumni Stadium is a football stadium located on the campus of Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, approximately six miles west of Boston.
Opened in 1915 as "Alumni Field," Boston College's first stadium was located just south of Gasson Quadrangle, on the site of the present "Dustbowl." In fact, the Dustbowl derives its nickname from the intense use of the original grounds which incorporated not only a gridiron, but a practice field, baseball diamond and running track.
Alumni Stadium has hosted numerous intellectual and cultural luminaries, religious leaders and heads of state as the venue for Boston College's annual Commencement Exercises since 1957.

Once inside the Heritage Gallery, the stadium exhibit uses photos, quotes, and memorabilia to take visitors through the three chapters of the stadium's life: the campaign and construction in the 1920s, a place of community gathering until 1981, and its demolition in 1992.
While the third chapter of the stadium history covers its demolition in 1992---68 years after it was built---Boyd-Smith is quick to add that he included an epilogue for the new stadium initiative.
In addition to the Memorial Stadium exhibit, the gallery has a number of permanent exhibits, including a historical timeline; a wall of books written by University, alumni, faculty, staff, and students; kiosks profiling famous people from the University's past; and a new exhibit on the mascots of the four University of Minnesota campuses.

The RCA Dome, Texas Stadium, Giants Stadium and the home stadiums of several major universities are among those that become the fields of dreams for the high schoolers who have earned the right to compete for championships where their childhood heroes play.
The only other major venue left is Boston College's Alumni Stadium -- but BC has never shown any inclination to consider letting the schools play there, conveniently using the objections of neighborhood groups to non-college events to justify its selfishness.
There are many options available to outdoor stadiums to preserve the playing conditions under extreme circumstances, as well as enhancing their revenue-producing potential as multi-purpose venues.

"It was important to the partners who built the McNamara Alumni Center that we included the Heritage Gallery in our plans, because we all felt that the University needed a singular place to showcase its memories, traditions, legends, and heroes," said Margaret Sughrue Carlson, University of Minnesota Alumni Association executive director.
