  School of Dentistry Selects Alumnus Of The Year
Burton, a 1980 graduate of the School of Dentistry, is a board-certified general dentist practicing in Hood River, Ore. Burton accepted his award at the Oregon Dental Conference.
The John C. Peterson Alumnus of the Year Award was created to recognize an alumnus for their years of service and to advocate for dentists and dental hygienists to take an active role in guiding the future of their community, their school and the dental profession.
Peterson was a 1955 graduate of the North Pacific Dental College and served as the School of Dentistry Alumni Association president in 1991.

 Alumnus of Merit Award Recipient
The Alumnus of Merit Award is the highest honor the Alumni Association bestows on an alumnus of Whitman College.
This award is given to alumni who have achieved distinction in their chosen field, or rendered outstanding service to their community, or rendered outstanding service to, and demonstrated loyal interest in, Whitman College.
Craig Lesley, '67, the author of four novels is the recipient of the 2004 Whitman College Alumnus of Merit Award.

The Regent University Office of Alumni Relations established the Alumnus of the Year award in 2004 to recognize individuals who have gained unique distinction through their accomplishments and have brought positive change to the world through Christian leadership.
While the primary purpose of this award is to honor those that have made an impact toward the betterment of society, it also highlights the effectiveness of Regent University's programming in producing dynamic leaders in the areas of business, communication and the arts, divinity, education, government, law, leadership and psychology and counseling.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award is given jointly by the Memphis School of Preaching and the Memphis School of Preaching Alumni Association to those alumni of the Memphis School of Preaching who have distinguished themselves according to the terms associated with this Award.
The alumnus has earned and received a Diploma (or similar document) from the Memphis School of Preaching for work done as a regular student of the School for a period of not less than two full school years.
An alumnus who dies before this time requirement has been met shall be given the Award posthumously provided that he had been faithful in service, without interruption, from the time of his graduation to the time of his death.

We used to have “alumnus” (male singular), “alumni” (male plural), “alumna” (female singular) and “alumnae” (female plural); but the latter two are now popular only among older female graduates, with the first two terms becoming unisex.
However, it is still important to distinguish between one alumnus and a stadium full of alumni.
Never say, “I am an alumni” if you don’t want to cast discredit on your school.
