  A History of Alvaston Parish, Derby, England
Alvaston and Boulton were amalgamated and constituted a civil parish in 1884, but they remained, as heretofore, district parishes for ecclesiastical purposes.The total extent of land under assessment is 2000 acres; rateable value, £10,242; and the population, in 1891, was 3390.
It is in the hundred of Morleston and Litchurch, county council division of Alvaston, poor law union of Shardlow, petty sessional division, county court district and rural deanery of Derby.
Alvaston was formerly a chapelry subject to St. Michael's, Derby, which church the inhabitants were, by agreement, bound to attend yearly on the Feast of Relics.

It is possible that a farm has stood on this site for at least 700 years, for the lords of Alvaston had cleared the land between the present hotel and the river before the townsfolk halted their progress in an agreement of 1285.
A thirteenth century document refers to land and a house at Alvaston rented to the heirs of Agnes, daughter of Adam de Burton, for a "pair of white gloves".
It was re-named Alvaston Hall, and Mr and Mrs Knowles soon turned it into one of the centres of Cheshire social life.

Library which once stood at the front of Alvaston Park was for several years supported by wooden beams as it lay empty and was finally demolished in 1968 owing to subsidence.
On the corner of London road/Burnaby street once stood the Alvaston cinema (REX) which was operated by the Alvaston Picture Theatre Co Ltd. It opened on March 2nd 1925 and closed in October 1966 when it became a Bingo hall.
The source of this stream was Osmaston Park Farm (a farm which used to be part of Osmaston Hall, now demolished), from here is flowed east to the former Derby Canal and then north towards London Road and the Library.

A6 Alvaston Bypass completes the final link between the A52 to the north of Derby and the A50 Derby Southern Bypass.
The new dual carriageway is approximately 1.5 miles (2.3 km) long and passes to the east of Alvaston between the existing Thulston Roundabout at the end of the A6 Spur and the new Raynesway Park Roundabout at the junction with the A5111 Raynesway.
The scheme also includes a significant amount of environmental mitigation, including a 3.5m high earthen mound, separating the road from the outskirts of Alvaston.

The long-awaited A6 Alvaston Bypass consists of a 1.4-mile (2.3-kilometre) dual carriageway between the A6 Thurlston roundabout and the A5111 Raynesway.
It is designed to divert more than 80% of traffic away from the centre of Alvaston.
It is hoped the new road will have a major impact on reducing accidents.

Seating was arranged in stalls and a small circle and a popular feature that was retained throughout its life was the rows of 'double love seats' across the back row and down the sides of the auditorium.

The Highways Agency published its proposals for the A6 Alvaston Bypass in October 1999 with a Public Inquiry for the A6 Alvaston Bypass held locally in June 2000.
It was during this time that objections were presented to the Inspector, who duly reported to the Secretary of State for Transport.
A decision to proceed with the bypass was made by the Secretary of State in March 2001.
