Alvechurch Marina is on the Birmingham and Worcester Canal (built 1789) is just across a hedgerow from the station.

Mary Elizabeth Henderson Stewart, Baroness Stewart of Alvechurch, née Birkinshaw, JP (8 May 1903, Bradford-28 December 1984) was a British politician and educator.
She became a member of the Fabian Society Executive, serving as Chairman in 1963-64, and was also involved in local hospitals, schools and the East London Juvenile Court.
Stewart was created a life peer as Baroness Stewart of Alvechurch, of Fulham in Greater London in December 1974.

"ALVECHURCH, a parish belonging to the middle division of the hundred of Oswaldslow, but detached from it and lying locally in the upper division of the hundred of Halfshire, in the county of Worcester, 4 miles to the N.E. of Bromsgrove.
Alvechurch was a borough at a very early period, and the bishops of Worcester had a palace here from the reign of Henry II.
In the year 1648, the manor was sold by the parliament, and the episcopal palace fell into decay and disappeared.

A barren period was followed by a revival, which led to the founding of Birmingham’s Cannon Street Baptist Church in the mid 18th century.
This was to become the mother church of several outlying village churches, including Alvechurch.
In the early 19th century Edward King, a landowner from Bordesley near Alvechurch, persuaded others, who worshipped with him at Cannon Street, to start a Sunday School in rented rooms in Alvechurch.
