Since the piano is essentially a percussion instrument, I have always been interested in exploring those sounds and expanding the repertoire to include more pieces for this combination of instruments.
I commissioned composers Alvin Singleton, Alex Shapiro, Belinda Reynolds and Charlie Griffin to write pieces for me that explored this world of sound.
The resulting pieces were premiered this past spring in San Francisco and will tour the United States throughout the 2003-04 season, resulting in a CD recording to take place in June.
