  RAB Hall of Fame: Alvis Wayne
Alvis Wayne Samford was born in Puduka, Texas on December 31st 1937 to Alva N and Nona Mae Samford.
Alvis himself was by no means a prolific songwriter, although he did manage to come with a flip side, which was a song, called 'You're the One'.
Alvis himself has no recollection of ever meeting the pair and if it was anybody who didn't pay Alvis his royalties it would have been the Ruf family.

The Alvis company grew from the purchase of the Coventry branch of the large Detroit-based Holley Brothers Company, manufacturers and dealers primarily in carburettors and associated equipment, formed at 17 Hertford Street, Coventry in 1917.
The Alvis drive towards the high end of the market continued with quality models like the Firefly the Crested Eagle and the Speed 25, reputed to be the best of the pre-war cars and praised by the then world land speed record holder Sir Malcolm Campbell.
Alvis was of course a major wartime target of the Luftwaffe and the original car factory was destroyed by bombing on the night of the November Blitz in 1940.

To date I have traced the Alvis family in Greenbrier County to 1836, and in Augusta County, Virginia to 1832.
Due to the direct connection of William Alvis to myself, up to very recently my work has been centered in the Greenbrier County area of what is now West Virginia.
I am of the opinion that this large Alvis family of central Virginia will be an eventual player in my family history, and for this reason I will be publishing more research relevant to these lines as time goes on.
