 Alyxia oliviformis (Maile)
Alyxia oliviformis is generally a twining vine or a sprawling shrub.
Depulped Alyxia oliviformis seeds have a high germination rate and generally begin sprouting in about a month and may continue to germinate for 4 1/2 months.
Investigation of the effect of pre-plant storage temperature of depulped Alyxia oliviformis seeds showed that the earliest and the best overall germination was obtained when seeds were stored at 43 degrees F (household refrigerator temperature).

 Cultural Ecology
Growth inhibition by fresh P. cattleianum leaves was the least for Alyxia olivaeformis, followed by Coprosma spp.
In all cases when fresh P. cattleianum leaf litter was applied there was either no growth, as in Alyxia olivaeformis’ case, or a loss of height due to loss of leaves.
When the effects of fresh guava leaves and old guava leaves on height is averaged together, Alyxia olivaeformis’ growth seems to be inhibited the least.

No, Sarimbun is not some exotic Greek island and Alyxia no elixir of youth, but respectively, very much the legacies of our own natural seascape and flora.
However, another variety of Alyxia can be found in an isolated patch of primary forest fringing Mandai Road.
But for the sake of future generations and their sense of place, I hope both Alyxia and Sarimbun will endear as natural legacies to be treasured.

Discussion Board: Alyxia, The 40 letter limit on strings, 05/20   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
I used to make strings without nearly as much concern over which words I should put in.
Of course, strings had to be reasonably short so you still had to choose your words somewhat wisely; personally, I feel Alyxia's string example is a tad long (54 characters; you only get 25 more for the long description).
But as I said earlier, the imms benefit from having a rigidly defined string length - and lately, the imms seem to oppose a lot of things that would require them to make any sort of judgement call.
