Amaknak Island is about five and a half miles long and varies in width from a few hundred yards to about one mile.
The Aleutian World War II National Historic Area, also located on Amaknak Island, interprets the history of the Aleut or Unangan people and the Aleutian Islands in the defense of the United States in World War II.
