Announcing the awarding of a provincial banking tender, the MEC of Finance and Economic Development Darkey Africa said the provincial government had invited banks to manage their accounts and after undergoing scientific process of evaluating proposals, they have decided to continue with their relationship with ABSA and FNB as their service providers.
MEC Africa said one of the targets of their agreement will be based on the Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) to enable them to play a critical role in the economic development of the province.
Africa said they are going evaluate and assess the performance of these banking institutions on quarterly basis to ensure that they meet their obligations.

THE TANZANIA government has finally disposed of its last state-owned bank, the National Bank of Commerce (1997) Ltd, after signing a memorandum of understanding to allow the sale of its 70 per cent share to the Amalgamated Banks of South Africa group (ABSA).
This is the second South African bank to take root in Tanzania, the first being Stanbic, which bought the collapsed Meridien Biao Bank, Tanzania, in April 1995.
ABSA executive director Mr J. Brown said the move was another step in fostering close economic co-operation between the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) countries.
