		Although the description is extremely vivid (perhaps too vivid for my own comfort during Aman's circumcision and clitoridectomy), the narration seems to lose direction, becoming a series of horrible rapes and beating which were fired at the reader without respite.
		The rather simplistic language of the opening of the novel seemed to appropriately capture a young girl's speech, but as Aman grows in both experience and age the language remains unfortunately stagnant.
		Instead, Aman: The Story of a Somali Girl gave me a new perspective on Somalia as a country rich in tradition and culture, perspective that is seperated from the politics of the newscasts but still filled with the disturbing and painful struggle of women trapped under oppressive patriarchy.
