 | | Amar is one of the big stars of Mizrahi religious music in Israel, a tenor with a slightly pinched, adenoidal quality to his vocals that is not unpleasant. |
 | | Where Amar has an adult male chorus behind him, Maghribi works with a group of adolescent boys (thankfully, not the saccharine-voiced chirpers one usually hears on Jewish music recordings these days), and guides listeners through the entire seder. |
 | | A much more generous helping of Amar, opening with an improbable but infectious tango version of “Yom Zeh Yisrael” then progressing through some very vibrant Sabbath songs, including deliciously percussive settings of “L’Kha Dodi” and “Boi Malkhat Shabbat.” A good introduction to Amar, whose voice may not be to all tastes. |
