Amaravati is a small town near Guntur City situated on the bank of River Krishna in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, India.
It was also known as Dharanikota or Dhanyakataka, the capital of Andhra Satavahanas who ruled from 2nd century B.C. to 3rd century A.D. The holy shrine of Amaralingeswara (Lord Shiva) is on the banks of the river in this town.
