AFA History   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-18)
AFA Clubs were entitled to enter FA Cups and FA Amateur Cups, and the AFA won highest recognition with representation on the FA Council, the International Selection Committee, and the Amateur Cup Committee.
The average AFA club had 3 teams, many had 6 teams, and some (the Banks) had up to 15, catering for all ability levels and ages – a concept to be adopted many years later by the FA as the ideal ‘community club’.
Most significantly, a Rule change meant the AFA’s right to ‘operate in England’; was changed to ‘within such area as shall be determined from time to time by the FA’;, and the way was opened for the FA in the future to merge the AFA into the Counties it overlapped.
