Film: The Man Who Would Be Walt
Spielberg decided that if he was to make animated features on a significant scale, he would have to grab the top artists and set up his own company.
As it turned out, Amblimation's first major feature, "Fievel Goes West," the sequel to "An American Tail," did not knock Disney off its feet.
They plan to have Amblimation produce at least one animated feature a year, with a version of the Broadway musical "Cats" scheduled as this year's release.

Produced in London by the Amblimation team (many of which upped for LA when producer Steven Spielberg co-set up DreamWorks), the film is pure quality entertainment.
As with Brad Bird’s later The Iron Giant, this is a beautiful film that simply did not find its audience first time around, but thankfully TV screenings and home video have allowed those it is aimed at to discover it for themselves.
Although this may have been a conscious style decision, one wonders if the box-office failure of the Amblimation Studio’s previous animated feature film We’re Back: A Dinosaur’s Story, which contained a lot of effects and CG background animation, meant a tighter budget on Balto which did not allow for this icing on the cake.

Taking its story from an actual case, "Balto" tells the rousing story of a half-breed wolf/dog who helped to bring much-needed remedies to a diphtheria-stricken Alaskan village in the early part of the century.
