  ARACHNOLOGY - AMBLYPYGI
Young Whip Spiders Stay in Touch Young whip spiders gather in social groups and are constantly waving their long, flexible, whiplike front legs, said Linda S. Rayor, a behavioral ecologist at Cornell University and lead author of a new study in the Journal of Arachnology.

Some species of the Uropygi (Thelyphonidae) dig burrows; and in the east there is a family of Amblypygi, the Charontidae, of which many of the species live in the recesses of deep caves.
Specimens of another species have been found under stones between tide marks in the Andaman Islands.
The distribution of the Amblypygi practically covers that of the Uropygi, but in addition they extend from India through Arabia into tropical and southein Africa.

In a review of the book Whip Spiders (Chelicerata: Amblypygi) Their Biology, Morphology and Systematics by Peter Weygoldt, Apollo Books says there are 120 known species.
The "whip" part would seem to derive from their forelegs, which can be exceedingly long and are used to smell and feel for prey.
Following further closer examination and advice and comments from Peter Weygoldt, the world authority on Amblypygi, it would appear to be D.

Acid Spray: The Amblypygi's main attack is a highly corrosive fluid spray.
Due to the size of the creature and the height from which the attack may potentially be launched, the template may be shifted forward up to 6".
Crush Attack: The Amblypygi may forego its acid spray attack and attack by attempting to crush its target.

Scorpions | 4 Differences from other arthropods
At a first superficial glance, Uropygi, Amblypygi, solifugids or pseudoscorpions can be mistaken for scorpions.
Adult scorpions cannot be confused with Schizomyda or with Palpigrada, since these last two animal groups only include small species (3 mm).
Pseudoscorpions are rarely longer than 8 mm, and have neither a long abdomen nor a sting.

 Gordon's Apollo Books Review Page
Finding literature on the Amblypygi, as with most of the less well known arachnid orders, is extremely difficult for people without access to a major entomological library, such as the RES library in London.
The large amount of ecological material that the author has collected together is particularly interesting and the chapter on Ambylpygi in captivity will be of special interest to the many people with an interest in keeping Amblypygids as pets, and or research animals.
CD with songs of all species included (49 tracks) apollo books have done me the honour of sending me another book in Danish, proving perhaps that they were not too offended by what I wrote about "De danske guldsmede".

Filtration mechanisms in the mouthparts of tetrapulmonate arachnids (Trigonotarbida, Araneae, Amblypygi, Uropygi, Scizomida)
Amblypygi and Uropygi have no such pharyngeal filter, however, these orders have a dense mat of filtering setae on the pedipalpal coxae which in Uropygi lines a preoral trough formed in conjunction with the labrum, but comprises a more open preoral channel in Amblypygi.
Palpigrades are, of course, thought to be primitive arachnids.
