		Amcal wanted an online component, and so approached ShopFree, an online marketing service that combines free offers (trials) and market research with a pay-for-performance model.
		The free offer to draw mothers into the chemist was a “Baby Bonus Book” which contained hints and tips about caring for babies and which also contained vouchers which were only redeemable in Amcal chemists.

		Chemist shops have some of the shortest operating hours in retail according to information presented to the Health Select Committee by the Association yesterday.
		“Chemists have been using fear tactics saying that if their monopoly is ended communities would lose services, but this survey shows that the most likely impact is that access would be improved if supermarkets where able to operate a pharmacy within their supermarket, employing registered pharmacists to dispense prescriptions and provide advice.”
		The average hours nationally for the supermarket sector is 101.5 hours/week compared with the closet chemists to each at an overall average of 55.1 hours/week.
