Split Enz - Music Downloads - Online
The album failed to match the success of True Colours, but it did manage two hit singles, "One Step Ahead" and "History Never Repeats." On their subsequent North American tour, Split Enz were billed equally with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, which stands as a testament to the band's growing popularity.
The album was a big success in Australasia, spawning several hits singles including the Top Ten "Fraction Too Much Friction." For all of its success, though, the album distracted Tim, delaying the follow-up to Time and Tide and effectively ending the momentum Split Enz had built over the previous three albums.
Prior to this album, Tim had been the primary contributor, but for this effort, he was overshadowed by brother Neil who had written a considerable majority of songs for the first time.

  America
Sometime before you read this review, America's album will have been recalled by Warners, their hit single, "A Horse With No Name," added to the tunes, and the album then returned to the stores.
America, as they're known collectively, has evidently stockpiled a lot of knowledge in their young lives (18, 19 and 20 years) to be as facile as they are with close harmonies, tight arrangements and clever lyrics.
America, three real young men whose only concession to a combined 15 years of English residence is one wrinkled Rod Stewart-style velour jacket of the sort you don't need to go to England to get any more, are strictly for those who find Crosby & co. inaccessibly cerebral.

 America
The other two members of America kept the group going with the help of guitarist Michael Woods, fulfilling their contract with Warner Brothers with a 1978 live album and then moving to Capitol.
The album failed miserably and peaked at No. 185 and a subsequent live album failed to chart at all, after which their contract with Capitol Records ran out.
Without a recording deal, America continued to tour, buoyed by fact that in October, 1986, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), awarded two America albums with platinum-record status for sales of over a million copies each: "America" (the debut album from 1971), and "History/America's Greatest Hits".

The album was recorded in a beach house on the island of Kauai.
The album, once again produced by Martin, was recorded in Montserrat in the West Indies by the members of the live band, which by then had grown to include Beckley, Bunnell, bassist David Dickey, longtime drummer Willie Leacox, new lead guitarist Michael Woods, Jim Calire on keyboards and sax, and Tom Walsh on percussion.
America was briefly caught up in controversy in 1981 when they broke the anti-apartheid international cultural boycott against South Africa and played several concerts in that country.

Hourglass - America - Song Listings
The familiarity arises because of the duo's history of hits, although, by the time it was released, they had not had a hit on the music charts in over a decade.
The album opens with "Young Moon," which is as good as any of the group's hits.
The final selection on the album is a faithful re-recording of one of their biggest hits, "You Can Do Magic." In between are ten fine, listenable songs, which is rare for a group that has been together for as long as America.

The band would release a number of albums over the years, often experimenting with different musical trends of different eras, but their debut album is probably their most consistent and their most fulfilling.
America's first album was a must-have when I was in high school(early to mid-70s)and quickly became a favorite.
America was one of the premier soft rock bands of the 70s and listening to this album brings back memories of good times and great music.

Edwin McCain - Lost in America (Album Review)
Instead, the 10-track album features a hard-edged combination of uninspired ’80s rock riffs; screaming, heavy metal-infused vocals; and trite, angst-ridden lyrics.
In fact, there are no true highlights on Lost in America, and only the middle section of the bad-boy, power pop rave-up Bitter and Twisted and the roots-rock Gramercy Park Hotel show any melodic promise.
Overall, Lost in America is an album that not only lacks a stylistic focus, but also fails to provide one tune that isn’t a challenge to hear.

Bad Religion : The New America - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Todd Rundgren may seem like an odd choice of producer for Bad Religion, but as The New America illustrates, it was an inspired, even necessary, one for the veteran Californian punkers.
Rundgren blends his talents as a pop maverick and a vital hard rock producer on The New America, pushing Bad Religion to strengthen their melodies and hooks without losing their edge.
And that's the most remarkable thing about The New America -- it is clearly the work of a band that's been around for nearly 20 years, but the experience hasn't worn them down, it's strengthened them.

Widespread Panic - Earth to America (Album Review)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-27)
Second Skin, the opening track on Widespread Panic’s ninth studio disc Earth to America, begins and ends with an atmospheric stirring of sounds; in between, it moves with such slow deliberation that it essentially signals the dawning of a new era in the band’s history.
Whether it was the passage of time, the scenic change brought about by the ensemble’s jaunt to a recording studio in the Bahamas, or some combination thereof, Widespread Panic now appears to be fully re-energized and recommitted to fulfilling the promise that it demonstrated during the first decade of its career.
Consequently, Earth to America provides a suitable foundation for the next phase of Widespread Panic’s career, and its songs undoubtedly will join those from Space Wrangler, Everyday, Bombs and Butterflies, and ’Til the Medicine Takes to propel the band’s concerts for many years to come.

Amazon.com: America's Sweetheart: Music: Courtney Love   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-27)
Working with songwriting collaborator Linda Perry the sound of "America's Sweetheart" is not as raw as what Love and Hole produced for "Live Through This." But the music just provides the energy for Love to get through the public exorcism of these rambling lyrics whose coherence comes primarily out of her personal pain.
This is not surprising given that she has had a decade of being beaten over the head with the reality that she is the Jackie Kennedy of the Grunge generation, so it is not like there is any place or any reason to hide.
She will never be as influential as Cobain (nobody that influential ever tries to be that influential), but if she really wants to be more than a musical footnote to his legacy the next album is going to be the one that decides if she has any sort of chance.

It’s interesting that a band that hails from Sweden would call their album Living in America, but here it is. And they’re a hell of a lot more talented than Ace of Base.
The 80’s were a jubilant time for music, and this album captures that fun perfectly.
While the album may be a bit too “poppy” for its own good; it still somehow captures the essence of any decent indie record.

Album Review: Hat Trick, America's third album, found the band moving to a slightly softer, less exploratory sound than had been found on their first two albums.
It seemed like an intentional choice to abandon the progressive-rock explorations that were sprinkled here and there in their first two albums so they could focus fully on the easy-going sound that had garnered them four Top 10 hits on those early albums.

Corporate America (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This album was a significant endeavor in the Boston journey and surpassed many listener's expectations as Tom Scholz voyaged into an array of collaborations, with a standout display of songwriting and production by Anthony Cosmo.
Important to note is the album's inclusion of a live version of "Livin' for You", a song that first appeared on Walk On.
The album's titular song, "Corporate America", is an exposure of corporate corruption, and how it has pervaded and perverted nearly every aspect of American culture, and even daily life.

Cabaret Voltaire : The Voice of America - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
The Voice of America introduces itself with a Southern policeman delivering instructions to what could be a riot squad.
Like Mix-Up, The Voice of America displays in various ways how noisy, abrasive, and unpleasant an album can be in the oft-used ten-song/40-minute format, providing the nag-nag-nag that Cabaret Voltaire does so well without the drag-drag-drag associated with a lot of electronic experimentalism.
Generally speaking, The Voice of America has more of an anchor than Mix-Up with its increased use of rhythm, whether it's from those rickety drum machines or actual drums.

Despite its limited availability in britain, it still entered the album charts, before it was eventually put on general release on CD only, a couple of years after its first release.
It has always been classed as an album, although in length it is similar to an old fashioned 12 inch EP (Extended Player), or a CD single.

Bad - Michael Jackson, Music Downloads - Online
Look at the singles: only three can stand alongside album tracks from its predecessor ("Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "I Just Can't Stop Loving You"), another is simply OK ("Smooth Criminal"), with the other two showcasing Jackson at his worst (the saccharine "Man in the Mirror," the misogynistic "Dirty Diana").
Then, there are the album tracks themselves, something that virtually didn't exist on Thriller but bog down Bad not just because they're bad, but because they reveal that Jackson's state of the art is not hip.
For this dreadful stretch, everything is mechanical, and while the album rebounds with songs that prove mechanical can be tolerable if delivered with hooks and panache, it still makes Bad feel like an artifact of its time instead a piece of music that transcends it.

I later realized that one of the features that set this album apart was the prominent use of a dobro - an instrument that traditional country and bluegrass fans are reasonably familiar with, but which is not used as often as it might be.
When this album was originally released in America, RCA were going through a phase of releasing country albums with just nine tracks on them, so that explains why this is such a short album.
Every song on this album, I thought, really grooved except for Are the roses not blooming?, which is a slow but more contemplative song but a sweet one to end the album with.
